The Waratah is the official floral emblem of New South Wales and is deeply significant to the traditional owners of the Sydney region, the Eora people, coming from the Aboriginal word ‘warada,’ meaning ‘beautiful’ or ‘seen from afar’. The Gadigal had a deep connection to their land and the surrounding waterways. Historically, Eora is a term that represents the collective identity of the coastal communities in the Sydney region.
We acknowledge and respect the Gadigal of the Eora Nation as the traditional custodians of the land on which we will meet and pay respect to Elders, past, present and emerging.
