Connect & Collaborate – Transforming Data into Better Care

Held in the heart of Sydney, this event offers opportunities to foster connections and idea-sharing

Abstract Portal & Call for Submissions

Conference abstract submissions are invited for the 2026 National Health Information Management Conference, to be held 26-28 October 2026 at the Hilton Hotel, Sydney NSW.

The 2026 conference theme, ‘Connect & Collaborate – Transforming Data into Better Care’ highlights the power of partnership, integration, and shared insight in advancing Australia’s health and care landscape. As data become increasingly central to decision-making, innovation, and value-driven care, this theme recognises the essential role of health information management professionals in connecting systems, supporting multidisciplinary collaboration, and turning data into meaningful improvements for patients, communities, and health services.

This theme invites everyone working with, supporting, or relying on health data; from Health Information Managers (HIMs), Clinical Coders, and Clinical Documentation Specialists to clinicians, researchers, executives, and corporate partners; to showcase the ways they are collaborating, integrating new approaches, and transforming data into better health outcomes.

The professional practice of health information management is diverse and continually evolving. It spans health classification, clinical documentation improvement, data modelling, analysis and reporting, information governance, digital health and informatics, innovative technologies, operational management, supported by education and research and specialties across acute, non-acute, community and corporate settings. These professionals are strategically positioned to harness data and information as evidence to evaluate, improve, and innovate in clinical care, organisational performance, systems design, and value-based care.

‘Connect & Collaborate – Transforming Data into Better Care’ reflects the profession’s commitment to building connected systems, strengthening partnerships across the health and care sector, and using data in ways that genuinely enhance care quality, equity, safety, and experience. Health information management professionals continue to demonstrate leadership, agility, and resilience as they navigate an increasingly complex, technology-enabled health environment, driving solutions that support integrated care, empower patients and communities, and enable smarter, safer, more coordinated service delivery.

We warmly invite you to share your research, knowledge, and experiences – whether in professional practice, research, innovation, or project delivery – which demonstrates how health information management, clinical coding, data stewardship, and documentation improvement are connecting and collaborating to transform healthcare. Submissions are invited for Research Papers, Research Abstracts, Professional Practice Abstracts, Posters and Workshops from both Australian and international presenters. Please find all information on submission formats and guidelines further below.
